Which is the good day to buy jewels?

In India, Deepavali, Saraswathi Pooja, and the temple festivals of the particular places was celebrated in a grand manner than the recent times. No matter rich or poor, everyone has found their happiness in celebration of those festivals. They may even borrow to celebrate those days. But now in Tamilnadu, people are celebrating a day which is known as Akshaya Thrithiya. The Middle class husbands are afraid of this particular day, as they have to satisfy the need of their wives by buying the jewel. What is Akshaya Thrithiyai? What is the use if we buy gold on this day?

Every one of us knows, Lord Krishna. If we see a feather of peacock and flute, we will be automatically remembering Ayarpaadi Krishnan is leaning on the cow plays sweet venugaanam through the flute. We all know that he can pave way for the people struggling in life. Not only in Puranas and ithihaasas, but he can also do miracles in the life of people nowadays also.

Kannan was happily swinging with his Devi Rukmini in Dwaraka. Devi was giving thaamboolam to Sri Krishna. At that time Krishna was raising his hands to say it’s enough to Devi Rukmini. While raising his hands, he had a vision in his mind. He got shocked by the vision and he went speechless after that vision came to his mind.

The vision came in the mind of Sri Krishna describes the scene that five Pandavas are standing like the slaves in the grave Sabha. Paanjali is raising her hands by facing up. Dhuchadhanan who is the brother of Dhuriyodhanan undresses her saree in front of the Sabha. Bheeshmar and Dhronar who has to give justice, keeps calm. Dhridhuraashtran is blind, so he cannot able to save the poor girl Paanjali.

Therefore, she is longing for Sri Krishna to save her dignity by calling as Kanna, Govindha, Madhava and Madhusoodhana loudly. Her terrible call for dignity is reflected in the heart of Sri Krishna.

Krishna might have destroyed the cruel people who tried to spoil the dignity of paanjali if he was there at the scene. Sri Krishna might have been made them realize the right and wrong and saved the Pandavas if at all they meditated Kanna before playing the dice. But everything happens according to their fate. Therefore, Kanna went there to save Paanjali’s dignity as a Aabathpandhavan.

As he thought to be there and save paanjali without delay, he uttered the word “Akshaya”. Even before completing the word “Akshaya”, Paanjali’s saree began to grow. Dhuchadhanan was tired of undressing her.

The day on which this incident happened is the third day of the valarpirai Avani (First Quarter) month. In remembrance of Kanna, the day is called Akshaya thrithiya. On that day, we can start educating the child. We can publish a book which satisfies the thirst of knowledge, start constructing a building, name a child, cultivating crops like turmeric, cane and rice and can do many holy things on the day. Not only buying the jewels, every deed will grow continuously if we do any auspicious thing on the day.

Is it the only incident, saving the dignity of paanjali on the particular day?

Many existing. On the same day, Lord Krishna blessed and cures Sudhama from his poverty, who was a school friend of Him. Lord Parameshwara who gets cured from his curse by begging from Aadhi Parashakthi on the same day. In Silapathigaram, Manimegalai who is a daughter of Madhavi got sanyasam and got the Akshaya Paathiram from the deity Manipallava on the same day.

Our people are very good at taking unnecessary things from the Puranas. They will take whatever does well to maintain their greed and ego. People will speak about akshayathrithiya as they get more gold in the future. But they will be careful avoiding the important advice given by Sastras insisting to do tharpanam to ancestors and to worship Komatha. It has been said in the sutras that we have to donate food and education to poor. But we are not considering those things and not interested to know those things.

Indians need 800 tons of gold it seems. That too South India needs 400 tons of gold. In particular, Tamilnadu needs 300 tons of gold. You’ll be shocked if you see women who wore jewels in thirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts. They will be having more jewels than the temple deities. Therefore, it cannot be called as wealth, but much greed.

How to worship God on the day of Akshaya Thrithiya?

While doing Pooja, we can’t avoid offering neiveithiyam to God. It is very beneficial to offerings on Akshaya Thrithiyai than offerings on the ordinary days. Kuselan offered just rice, fries to vaikunda Vaasan, yet what he got is a lot of wealth which is immeasurable. Annapoorani has offered just rice to Bhagavan, yet she earned a part of Him. It is not just doing Pooja and offerings in the home and temples.

“I cannot find you in rivers, mountains and temples, but in a smile of the poor. I found you there”. This is the beautiful opinion given by Rabindranath Tagore in Geetanjali. Many poor people in this country are yet struggling for the food. Thousands of older people are without vision and just roaming in the streets without income. Many children were just dreaming of education and they don’t have any way to get even the pen and pencil. Bhagavan is uttering the sentence that he will be the “Dharithra Narayanan”. So find poor people and help them in various ways. That is the greatest “neiveithiyam” to God Himself. Therefore God will bless and give you with whatever you need to you.

A Saint went to the Great Emperor Akbar to get some help from him. By that time, Akbar was worshipping Allah with raised hands. The Saint was waiting till he finishes his prayer and then he asked what does he pray to God? Akbar replied as he was asked for a lot of wealth from God. The saint returned silently without speaking anything to him. Akbar asked the saint that why he returns without asking anything? For that, the saint answered politely that “ I came to ask you some money as a help. But you were asking the same to God. Thus a beggar should not beg to another beggar. That is why I am returning”.

King of kings may survive. But everyone is same and beggars before God. You might have seen a child, which feeds her mother with the same food given by her and that gives a lot of happiness to the mother. Like that we are offering things to God, which is created by Him. He again offers lot of wealth and blesses us with the ocean of mercy. Not only the gold that we have to get on the Akshaya Thrithiya day, but the mercy of God too. Thiru valluvar also uttered that this world is not suitable for the people who don’t have wealth and the heaven is not suitable for the people those who don’t have the blessing. Therefore, we have to get both wealth and blessing on the  Akshaya Thrithiyai day. So it should not be the festival, which boast about our wealth and luxury. If we do that, we are just making fun of our own culture and tradition. We should keep that in mind always.
