Name: Yogi Sri Ramananda Guru. His father named him Logidasan, which is actually the name of their clan deity. Since his maternal grandmother called him Sridharan, he was known by that name for some years. The doctor who treated him believed that more than the medicines it is the grace of Lord Murugan saved him. So he named him Murugan. From that day till he received sanyasam, he was called M.P. Sridhar Jayamurugan.

Yogi Sri Ramananda Guru as a child
Literary Interests: In the hospital, in order to make him forget his physical pains, his father and sisters used to narrate stories from Ramayana and Mahabharata, which helped him develop the creative skills.

First Creation: As a fifth standard student his keen interest in writing stories made him write a skit named kollaikaran in the morning and stage it on the same evening in a function arranged by the students council.

Development of Literary Experience: His friendship with creative heads like Sekar, Jayakumar, and Jayaraman, helped him write and direct stage drams like Amudha oru Kaaaviya kanni, Raavanin Marupakkam, Silambarasi, Paanchaali Sabatham. He was all the more encouraged when in 1977 the Weekly Tamil magazine Raani published his short story named Thookukayiru and poem named Mayakkam

Spiritual experience: In 1979 a Siddhar by name Oomaiyan touched his primary chakras and awakened him. Although he did not clearly understand at that time, he experienced a kind of blissful stage.

Change of Place: In 1980 he left his native place and moved to Aragandanallur where his father was engaged in business. Only after his arrival in Aragandanallur, he could experience the different realities of the social structure. For the first time he came into direct contact with social disparities like the aggression provoked by ancestral property, the deterrence induced by poverty, and the ignorance that pervaded the whole society. He was immensely shocked by what he experienced. He came to a conclusion that the social values upheld by him so far were incorrect.

Yogi Sri Ramananda Guru with his Mother and Sisters
Atheistic thinking: He came to sincerely believe that the blind religious beliefs of the mass were the real cause for social evils like slavery, superstitions, and poverty. The books of Karl Marx, Lenin, and Mao which he read at that time also strengthened this belief.

Political Entry: The communist ideology of the 1980s attracted him into serious politics. He participated eagerly in the communist campaigns and other political activities. After a period of time he was disheartened by the power politics and money laundering that existed within the political movements. Eventually he disassociated himself from political movements and identified himself with the militant groups that sincerely fought for the social upliftment of the marginalized.

Change of Thinking: It did not take very long for him to realize that the militant groups that claimed they were fighting for the marginalized were actually serving the ruling class. All these mixed experiences occurred at a very short period of time. As a result he came to accept that communism is good as a theory but not down to earth. At this time the guidance of his father and the requests of his friends made him join the Congress party. Although he served the party for some time, he did not like the power conflicts within the party. So he realized that involving in politics is a waste of time.

Literary Training: Lack of interest in Politics gradually paved the way for concentration in literature. Realizing the need for professional training, he began to systematically study the Tamil literature under the guidance of Pulavar S. Kannan and Kavignar Pennaivalavan. Side by side he mastered English and Sanskrit under the guidance of his friends Velu Naicker and Aranganathan respectively.

Business Involvement: He began to look after full time his father’s general store. Along with his father’s business he joined hands with his friend Mahendra Kumar Jain in jewel business.

Suicide Attempt: From 1980 to 1987 his active life was revolving around politics, literature and business. From May 1987 there was a setback in his life. On July 15 1987, he consumed several sleeping pills in an attempt to end his life. The intense treatment of Dr. Purushothaman saved his life.

Vow of Renunciation: The disgrace caused by the failure of suicide attempt and the fear of public ridicule greatly frightened him and kept him in silence for a few days. But his characteristic warrior spirit rose again and inspired him to dedicate his life in the service of God and the people. He took a vow of renunciation on August 24 1987 in the presence of Anthili Lakshmi Narasimmar.

Spiritual Practices: He learned the intricacies of Yoga from Kothandapanipuram Chidambaram Pillai, and systematic meditation techniques from Madurai Vijayarangaragavan. But none of these trainings quenched his thirst for Truth. As he was on the lookout for the right master, he was met by a Siddhar who wished to remain anonymous, in Pachaiyamman temple Aragandanallur. This Siddhar taught him systematically Kundalini exercises suited to his body condition. From 24th January 1988 he observed strictly the vow of celibacy and touched the peak of Kundalini at 1.30 midnight of 20th March 1991.

Training in the Sastras: He learned systematically Astrology from Kothandapanipuram Chidambaram Pillai, Kadakal Duraisamy Gounder and Aragandanallur Pattusamy Iyer. Renugonda Rajendran Raju and Trivandrum Krishnamenan have taught him Mantra sastra. He learned the use of Atharvana Veda from Madhavan alias Keezhaiyur Baby. Apart from these, several siddhars, yogis, and mahaans have come to him to teach the secrets of Gnana Margam i.e. the path of wisdom.

Weird Experiences: He has had direct visions and experiences of subtle energies as a result of the teachings and trainings imparted to him by the mantra yantra goddesses. Having mastered the rare tantric subjects he could have out of body experience, astral travel and control over the five elements of the universe.

Other Experiences: He has come to know the art of hunting and the nature of wild animals from the Gypsy Ranga. From the transgendered Vimala he has come to understand their emotions and lifestyle. He has learned the down to earth problems of the prostitutes from the sex worker Rajeshwari. He has heard the other side of the beggars from Kuppusamy. The prisoner Ramesh has shared with him about prison experiences. Desa Sanjari Vedantapuri has taught him about the variety of people. The Military officer Robert Vincent who has served the Army in two Pakistan wars, has briefed him about the modern war tools and techniques. He has learned about the lifestyle of those on the highway from the lorry driver Arockiasamy. Thus one can see that the author has had direct and indirect experiences of the variety of people we have in the different strata of society.

First Spiritual Discourse: On 15-08-1994, on the occasion of Tiruvannamalai Arunagirinathar Fest, he delivered his first spiritual discourse on the topic: Lifestyle expounded by Hindu Religion. The discourse was highly commended by Prof. S. Sathiyaseelan, Arivoli, Rukmani Devi, Playback Singers Pithukuli Murugadoss, T.M.Soundrarajan and several others.

First Remuneration: The monthly magazine of Tirumalai Tirupathi Devesthanam named Sapthagiri, published his poem:Karisal Nilathil Kannan Geetham. For this poem he was awarded Rs. 150 and a special admission into the temple.

First Prize: At the age of ten, he won a special prize in the Tiruvasagam Recitation contest and received the same from Tirumuruga Kirubanandavariyar.

Founding of the Trust: To carry out the cause of religious and social services, a trust named Vivekananda Seva Samithi was founded in 1995 in Sri Mangala Vinayagar Temple near the Aragandanallur Polic Station. The members were his friends N. Subramaniyan, V.V. Santhaanam, K.R.Babu, R.Sakthivel, R. Lakshminarayanan, K. Harishankaran, S. Selvaperumal, P.Nirmalkumar, S. Rajkumar and P. Radhakrishnan.

She died at the age of 8 leaving an indelible mark about the pains of death. The nurse Abarna Nair, who was strict at the same time very kind. Dr. Bala Krishna Panicker, who with his ayurvedic mastery tried hard to cure his polio attack, but failed in front of fate. His father Balu who never said ‘no’ to him. His friend M.S.K.Akbar who stood by him in all his trials. Tiruvannamalai V. Danush who gave him several opportunities, for his talents.
